Cosmic forms are morphing
They know secrets too scary to say aloud
They form meanings for fluid words that are too hard to chew
And spit them out into the ears of those who are afraid to listen
The works in The Amorphous Series began as playful experiments in Blender, a free and open-source software for 3D modelling and animating. Typically used for game building, I am interesting in pushing Blender into the realm of contemporary art, and it was the lockdown of 2020 that offered the opportunity to explore new corners of the program.
For this series, I worked very intuitively, letting the program guide me and not anticipating outcomes. Through the process of repeating the making stages, I spawned these unique and amorphous forms, situated in their own virtual landscapes. I am interested in the relationships that these spaces have to each other, but also their relationships with the physical realm, my own body and the wider human community. Through experimenting with Blender, I hopes to start unpicking these relationships.
While I have not yet formed the perfect language with which to talk about this new series of work, I know that they are hybrids, beings made up of full and functioning eco-systems that support the lives of all that inhabit them. They are fictioned landscapes that draw on real world issues such as humanity’s relationship to our planet which, when combined with my interest in science-fiction, form these imagined and unique spaces to lose yourself in.
